Sunil Kumar Ravi, Resident Engineer, Cowi and Partners for the Muscat and Salalah Airports Project, an Alumni of NSSCE Palakkad.

Born on 10 July 1967, eldest of the three sons of Sri. P. S. Raveendranathan Pillai, a PWD Contractor, and Smt. Sarada R Pillai, a housewife, he hails from Kadapra, a beautiful village in Tiruvalla. Both his brothers are now settled in jobs in the Middle East – one is Regional Manager for Middle East at Teledyne Technologies Inc., stationed at Sharjah and the other works as a Logistics Officer for a construction firm,  NEUC at Muscat.

He did his school education at St Mary’s Residential Central School, Pre-Degree at Pamba College, Mannar. He did his Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad during 1985-’89. He is currently pursuing his MBA at IGNOU (Muscat centre).

After his engineering graduation, he joined Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. as a Junior Engineer. In KRCL, he worked on major civil engineering projects like major and minor bridges, tunneling in soil and rock. After working at KRCL for almost 6 years, he joined Econ Piling PTE Ltd, Singapore in 1996 as a Civil Engineer. His experience there spans Bored piles, Micro piles, Ground Anchors, testing of piles etc. In 1998, he joined Galfar India Pvt Ltd as Project Co-ordinator for the Le Meridian 5 star Deluxe Hotel Project at Cochin. After the commissioning of the hotel project, he moved on to Oman, joining Galfar Engineering and Contracting SAOG in January 2002. He worked his way through various roads and highway projects in Liwas-Shinas, Mahadha-Al Rawdha, Hassam–Hoqain and Al-Mawelah interchange and the associated roads projects in the capacities of Senior Engineer, Project Leader and Construction Manager. His last project with Galfar was the prestigious Muscat Expressway project as Project Manager for the Qurum-Bowshar section. In 2008, he joined Cowi and Partners as Resident Engineer for the Muscat and Salalah Airports Project.

In 1995, Sunil married Uma Nair (NITCA alumni, working with IMTAC, Muscat), daughter of Sri.S.Sadasivan Nair (former Chief Engineer, FEDO) and Dr.B Syamala Kumari (Cytopathologist, Lourdes Hospital, Cochin). Sunil and Uma are blessed with a daughter, Gopika, who is studying in Indian School Muscat, and a member of the Gavel Club of KTI, Muscat.

Sunil is an active member of Khimji Toastmaster, Muscat. He was awarded ‘Competent Communicator (CC)’ in August 2010. He is currently serving as the Sergeant-At-Arms of KTI for the year 2010-2011.

He is an executive member of Santhwanam, Muscat chapter, a charity group working for the welfare of fellow Keralites.
