Jyotsna Radhakrishnan is
a playback singer in Malayalam cinema. A singer with a magic in
her voice, has already positioned herself comfortably in the world of
film music. She has to her credit a number of Film songs with an
identity of her own. She has also won a number of awards like the
LUX-Asianet Film Awards 2003 for Best Female Playback singer, Shruthi
Bharatam Award 2003 for Best Female Playback singer, “Yuva Prathibha
2003” by Pallavoor Appu Marar Smaraka Kalakshethram.etc. She was also
honoured by Swaralaya Palakkad for the unique rendition of the song
“Sukhamanee Nilavu” from “Nammal”.
Jyotsna Radhakrishnan was born in Kuwait to Radhakrishnan and Girija.
She was brought up in Abu Dhabi, and did her schooling up to 10th grade
in Abu Dhabi. She has learnt both Carnatic and Hindustani music
when moving back to Kerala. Her father Mr.Radhakrishnan an Electrical
Engineer made her nurture her talents. Her mother Smt. Girija
Radhakrishnan and Her sister Miss. Veena have also inspired her in
developing her musical talents.
Jyotsana's interest in music started at a very young age. She has learnt
Carnatic vocal under Mangad Natesan (A.I.R. artiste) and also Hindustani
classical vocal under Guru Dinesh Devdas. Although she started her
career in Malayalam Cinema with the song "Valakilukkam Kettedee" from
the film "Pranayamani Thooval" in 2002, she shot into the limelight with
the song "Sughamanee Nilavu" from the film "Nammal" after which she has
had a very busy professional singing career. Till now she has sung in
almost 130 movies including Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. She also has
lent her voice for 200 albums. Some of her other hits include
”Karuppinazhagu” from "Swapnakoodu", "Melleyonnu" from "Manassinakkare",
"Meheruba" from "Perumazhakkalam" etc.
Some of her latest films include "Classmates", "Pothen Vava", "Don",
"Notebook" and "Janmam". She has traveled to the U.K., U.S.A and
Singapore for musical programs and has performed with almost all leading
playback singers of south India. She successfully concluded another
North American tour recently with singer G. Venugopal, performing for
Malayalees in major cities.
Jyotsna has participated
in stage shows all over UAE.
• Jyotsna has also won several prizes for music competitions held by Kerala
Social Centre, Abu Dhabi Malayalee Samajam and India Social Centre in Abu
Dhabi.She is also the winner of Title Trophy “Rasna Girl 2001” (Open UAE music
competition in Hindi film songs).
• Prize winner in “Sangeetha Prathibha Sangamam”, an open UAE music competition
in Malayalam film songs.
• Winner of music competitions held by Malayalam Radio channels in UAE.
She got married to Sreekanth at
Guruvayoor Temple on Sunday, 26th of December 2010.
