Car and Bike questions-Page02
Go to Automobile page

I want to buy my first car, a petrol-engined hatchback, priced between Rs. 4.5 lakh and Rs. 5.25 lakh. It should have refined performance, good interiors, and enough boot space. Which one do you recommend?

Raja Perumal N

The recently launched Nissan Micra seems perfect for you. You'll enjoy the roomy cabin, the peppy engine and the long list of features. Keyless start-stop is a useful feature too. If style and road presence are your priorities, we feel the Fiat Linea with its stunning design and Maserati-like nose will turn the most heads. The 1.4 petrol suits your price range and is quite nice to drive.

I want to buy the Mahindra Logan. When does the company plan to launch the facelifted (just four-metre long) version?

Sumedh

Mahindra is planning a Logan that is less than four metres long by chopping the boot. The car will also get fresher interiors and a new grille. There is no official word on the launch date for the shortened Logan but you can expect it to come before the end of this year.

I am a college student and plan to buy a bike. I am unable to decide between Suzuki GS150R and Bajaj Pulsar.

S. Balamurugan

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-i and Suzuki GS 150R are smart city bikes. In terms of features, both models are at par with each other. Both bikes also offer decent handling, a comfortable ride and good mileage. Where they differ is in engine feel. The Pulsar 150 DTS-i is slightly more powerful with better performance. The GS 150R's silky-smooth motor on the other hand is more suited to relaxed riding. Depending on what you want from your bike, you may choose either model.

Everyday I travel 45km, mostly on the highway and about 3km on a hilly terrain, to reach my college. I am looking at a bike that costs not more than Rs. 90,000. My preferences are good mileage, pick up and speed.

Mangesh Ratolikar

Considering your requirements, you can choose between the Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTS-i and Yamaha Fazer. While the cheaper and more powerful Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTS-i offers better performance, the Yamaha Fazer thrills with superior handling and better overall quality. If you are willing to sacrifice on the fuel economy front, you can even consider the Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-i and Hero Honda Karizma, both are comfortable bikes and great tourers.

I am planning to buy a car that costs between Rs. 3 lakh and Rs. 4 lakh. I have shortlisted the Maruti Alto and Ford Figo (petrol). My considerations are mileage and performance.

B. Parthasarathy

The Alto and Figo belong to different categories. The Alto is the lighter car and has a strong engine which gives it better economy and performance. If these are your requirements, then go for it.
