I am doing my +2. I want to do B.Tech. Which option is better - Electronics and Communications, or Mechanical? Which universities in Tamil Nadu offer the course?

Both Electronics and Communications, and Mechanical engineering are vast fields that provide promising career prospects. These two fields are the origin for many more specialised and interdisciplinary branches of engineering like Robotics, Mechatronics, Communication Systems, VLSI Design and Energy Engineering. So based on your interests, you can opt for one of the branches, explore your strengths and interests further in these four years and then choose a specialisation at M.Tech.

The following are some universities in Tamil Nadu offering B.Tech in these branches of Engineering.

SRM University: The admission is based on performance at all-India engineering entrance examination (SRMEEE) conducted by the university. The institute offers specialisations like Robotics, Energy Engineering, Telecommunication and Networks, Power Electronics and Drives, Embedded Systems Technology, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, and Computer Aided Design at M.Tech. For details, log on to www.srmuniv.ac.in

Anna University: The admission is based on performance at state level entrance test.

At M.Tech level the university offers specialisations Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Engineering Design, Computer Aided Design, Energy Engineering, Mechatronics, VLSI Design, Medical Electronics and Communication Systems. For details, log on to www.annauniv.edu

Some more institutes include Sastra University (www.sastra.edu), Bharath University (www.bharathuniv.com), VIT University (www.vit.ac.in), Satyabhama University (www.sathyabamauniversity.ac.in), IIT Madras (www.iitm.ac.in) and NIT Trichy (www.nitt.edu).
