She passed away on June 26 2010
at the age of 85
Adoor Pankajam was an Indian actress,
in Malayalam movies. She hails from Adoor in Pathanamthitta district of
Kerala state. Mainly, she is a supporting actress, and a comedian. Her
sister Adoor Bhavani was also a Malayalam cinema actress. The duo were known
as ‘Adoor sisters” on the stage as well as silver screen.
Pankajam's most noted performance was in the national award winning film
Chemmeen as Chakki. In 2008, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy honoured
Pankajam and Bhavani for their overall contributions to theatre and drama.
The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA)
used to give her monthly assistance at a rate of Rs 2000. She
was under treatment for the last few years.
She had acted in over 400 films and during 1970s
formed a redoubtable comic couple with late S.P.Pillai. Pankajam had been a
recipient of several awards including state government’s award for best
supporting role.
She passed away on June 26 2010 at the age of 85. She is survived by son Ajayan,
who is a cinema and television serial artist.
