Good Friday Festivals Page| Christmas| Easter| Good Friday | Maunty Thursday
The most important events in Christianity are the death and later resurrection of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Son of God, and whose life and teachings are the foundation of Christianity. Good Friday is the Friday before Easter. It commemorates the execution of Jesus by crucifixion. Good Friday is a day of mourning in church. During special Good Friday services Christians meditate on Jesus' suffering and death on the cross, and what this means for their faith. In some countries, there are special Good Friday processions, or re-enactments of the Crucifixion. The main service on Good Friday takes place between midday and 3pm. In many churches it takes the form of a meditation based on the seven last words of Jesus on the cross, with hymns, prayers, and short sermons Good Friday is kept in remembrance of the fact that God Himself, in the form of man, came down to earth and died and horrible death as a sacrifice to cover our sins for us. Easter is the celebration which commemorates that fact that this man, after he was killed, came back to life. He was resurrected from the dead, because He was no ordinary man; He was God Incarnate, the Second Person of the Trinity, Who took the form of a man to show us how to live, and then, as mentioned to die for the forgiveness of our sins. How terrible it was for those who knew and loved Him as a man to see Him killed and dead, and how truly marvelous, joyous and beyond wonder was it for them to see Him alive again!! Can you imagine the unearthly joy?!? Can you understand how sacred and joyous it is to Christians to celebrate that Christ overcame the nature of death for us humans. He showed us that not even death itself can harm us or is to be feared if we have life in and with Christ. If He rose from the dead, and we live in Him, we are assured of eternal life as well.....Easter is the wonderful celebration of not only our forgiveness of our sins, but victory of life over death. The joy is truly indescribable. |
