By Sajeev K Peter, Staff Writer: KUWAIT: Celebrated Indian singer Deepali Joshi Shah, 35, died in a gruesome car crash on Friday night in Kuwait. Her manager Ishaal Naqvi, who sustained serious wounds in the accident, is battling for his life at Farwaniya Hospital. Shah arrived in Kuwait to present a ‘Patriotic Song Only’ music program’ yesterday at the Indian embassy auditorium as part of India’s 63rd Republic Day celebrations. The tragedy struck the singer and her manager on their way to a hotel from Kuwait International Airport after their arrival from Mumbai. Their car was hit by a speeding vehicle from behind off the Airport Road, wrecking one side of it and killing Shah on the spot. The driver of the car, an employee of the Al-Mulla Group, and a staff member were also injured in the accident. Al-Mulla Group was the official organizer of the show. “It is a very tragic and unfortunate incident,” Indian Ambassador Satish C Mehta told Kuwait Times. He said the musical program scheduled for yesterday evening was cancelled. The singer’s body will be flown to Mumbai once formalities are completed, the ambassador informed. A very popular singer, Shah hailed from Dharwad region of Karnataka. She is survived by husband Paresh Shah, a well-known Gujarati music composer, a sister and a brother. Groomed by Pandit Sunil Borgaonkar, Deepali was recognized by music director Khayyam in the ‘Awaz ki Dunia’ show. Inspired by India’s legendary singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, Shah gave countless performances across India and abroad. Her performances in Baltimore, Washington DC and New York earned her big fame in the US as well. She also brought out numerous music albums and videos. Before leaving for Kuwait, Deepali posted on her Facebook wall, “Off to Kuwait for two concerts…will be back on 29th to perform at Dinnanath, Vile Parle..Gonna be hectic… but I am excited.” And apparently her last post on Facebook, a final adieu to her fans, read, “Thank u so much for the wishes…” Courtesy: http://new.kuwaittimes.net/ |
