As of December 15, 2011, five
releases of 2011 have made it into the List of highest-grossing Bollywood films.
Several
commercially and critically successful films were released during the
year. The current highest-grossing film of 2011 is Bodyguard, collecting
140,95,00,000. 2011 marked the first time in Indian cinematic history that three
films crossed the 100 crore mark. Several of these films saw major worldwide
commercial success, notably Ra.One, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Bodyguard.
Several unexpected major successes also arose, including Delhi Belly and Murder
2. As of 15.12.2011, the total net collections of the top ten films is estimated
at 865.64 crore (US$164.47 million), which is 17.76% up from 2010's 735.07 crore
(US$139.66 million). 2011 has thus set the record for biggest cumulative
top-ten-films collections of all time.
A film-by-film analysis for the most notable films is given below:-
Within the first day of its release, Bodyguard become the highest opening day
grosser as well as the biggest grosser ever for a single day,breaking the
records earlier held by Dabangg. The film went on to break many collection
records, netting 21.25 crore on its opening day, 85.50 crore in its extented
opening weekend and 109.47 crore in its extended first week of business, and is
currently the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time.This film
marked the third straight 100 crore-plus film for Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor.
It is Bollywood's second highest-grossing film ever, after 2009's 3 Idiots.
Ready has grossed 121,25,00,000 in its theatrical run, making it the fourth
highest-grossing film of all time.[4] At the time of release, it became Salman
Khan's second back-to-back 100 crore-plus film.
Ra.One has grossed 114,74,00,000, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of
all time. It set the record for a single-day collection, netting 22.8 crore on
its second day.Upon release, the film became the first 100 crore-plus film for
Shah Rukh Khan, his highest-grossing film till date and Kareena Kapoor's fourth
straight 100 crore-plus film. In the process, Kapoor equaled yesteryear
superstar Hema Malini's record of four back-to-back films in the top ten
highest-grossing Bollywood films of her time.
Singham has grossed 97,75,00,000, making its eighth highest-grossing film of all
time. The film became Ajay Devgn's biggest commercial success till date. Many of
the above films are still running successfully. So the exact collection has to
be more than above
