Talaash is a suspense
film directed by Reema Kagti. The project is jointly produced by Excel
Entertainment and Aamir Khan Productions, and stars Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji,
Kareena Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Raj Kumar Yadav in pivotal roles.
The music is scored by Ram Sampath along with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. It
received a UA certificate from the Indian Censor Board.
Story: It is a thriller film. Inspector Surjan Singh Shekhawat
(Aamir Khan) who receives a phone call early in the morning, informing him
about death and an accident and how everything starts to unfold from there.
The case turns into a life altering chase for Inspector Shekhawat when he is
forced to reel under the repercussions of a broken marriage with his wife,
Roshni,(Rani Mukherji) and come face to face with his suppressed grief.
Being on his investigational quest and fighting it out with personal
struggle, Inspector Shekhawat meets a sex worker Rosie (Kareena Kapoor) who
further adds shades of mystery to the puzzle. What looks like a simple car
accident investigation turns into a haunting mystery as further
investigations show many anomalies linked to the victim`s death.
Reviews : Talaash opened to positive reviews. Taran Adarsh of
Bollywood Hungama gave Talaash a score of 4.5 out of 5 stars and said "Talaash
is an outstanding film. A taut psychological thriller that keeps you
guessing till the end, it leaves you spellbound, leaves you mesmerized,
leaves you with an exclamation"
As a suspense thriller with a paranormal edge, it certainly isn’t
action-packed. Yet Talaash,
which relies far more on the intricacies of psychological drama than on the
disquieting impact of visceral shocks, is riveting all the way through to its
surprising, if a tad dissonant, end.
From the moment director Reema Kagti and cinematographer K.U.
Mohanan unveil the seedy side of the city’s nightlife in a brief and evocative
prelude (enhanced by a smoky Ram Sampath-composed number) that sets the tone,
the film telegraphs its intentions quite unambiguously and sticks to its chosen
tone and tenor.
But this is an Aamir Khan film, so it is the demands of the
script that determine the amount of time that the male protagonist is
apportioned on the screen. Yes, the superstar does not hog all the limelight
even though it is his strong and emotionally beleaguered character that is at
the centre of the drama.
