By Smitha, oneindia.in: : Thappana, directed by Johnny Antony and starring superstar Mammootty and Charmy Kaur in the lead is like a whiff of fresh breeze in an industry where every filmmaker wants to experiment with modern and urban plots (Salt and Pepper, 22 Female Kottayam). Though Thappana does not boast of an unusual script, director Johnny Antony has added just the right dose of comedy, tears and action to make it a mass entertainer. Mamootty as usual does not disappoint you down one bit! Mammootty, who hasn't had a hit in a long time, has targeted the family audience this festive season of Ramzan, and this time, the actor seems to have hit the bull's eye. The plot bear resemblance to Mammooty's hit Maayavi as well. Script by M Sindhuraj is decent and Johnny Antony has ensured to weave a strong plot around the main characters. Music by Vidyasagar is good. Thappanais produced by Milan Jaleel under the banner of Galaxy films. Story Samkutty (Mammootty) is a small time thief who gets into trouble often and lands up in jail. In fact, the prison is like second home to him. Once, during one of his release from jail, Samkutty happens to meet Marykutty who got released from the women's cell. She was arrested for murdering somebody. Samkutty decides to escort her home, but during the entire journey, Marykutty is absolutely quiet and refuses to utter a word to him. She seems depressed, forlon and lonely. What follows is an interesting story about how the relationship between the two 'very different people' develop. Performances Mammootty undoubtedly walks away with the cake in Thappana! His comic timing, dialogue delivery and expressions are flawless. He makes you laugh, cry and go through the entire experience with him! Charmy Kaur is cute and performs well. Murlai as usual is terrific. Overall, Thappana is Mammootty's comeback....It's an average film, and a must watch for all Mammootty fans! ( Courtessy: http://entertainment.oneindia.in/ ) |
