By Jason Ramsey : The cardiologists are using a
newer version of heart surgery. Now the heart surgery for removing any clogging
would be done through the wrist. The cardiologists would use wrist instead of
the groin region for angioplasty surgeries.
All the British cardiac experts are using the wrist artery for performing the
major life saving operations.
Dr. Rod Stables, a consultant cardiologist claimed that he performs almost 95
percent of the heart surgeries using the wrist location.
He claimed, “This is the future of angioplasty. It is safer and more comfortable
with the chances of complications much reduced. The patient, in most routine
cases, can also go home much sooner.”
Angioplasty is a heart surgery which is done for removing the blockages in the
coronary arteries. This surgery helps to restore the flow of blood inside the
clogged artery. During the surgery a tiny balloon is inflated for pushing the
clog.
In case of radial angioplasty, a small hole is made in the wrist under local
anaesthesia. This lowers the bleeding and discomfort of the patients.
Researchers claim that the insertion in the wrist is better as the healing is
faster and it reduces the risk of the patients.
This technique requires adequate training for the professionals before
conducting the surgeries.
