AYURVEDA is an Indian System of Medicine.
The word 'Ayurveda' composed from 'Ayur'
and 'Veda'. 'Ayur' means 'Life' and 'Veda'
means 'Knowledge'. So Ayurveda is the
'Science of Life. It is considered divine in origin and is also known as
'Upa
Veda' (Branch) to 'Adharvaveda'.
There are many references to Health, Disease, Treatments, description of
Medicinal plants etc., available in 'Adharvaveda'.
Ayurveda originated from Veda which is believed to be the earliest written
documents in the world.
Ayurveda believes that Health (Swasthya)
depends upon the equilibrium condition of the three foundations of body (Sharira)
i.e. (Tridoshas, Sapta Dhatus and Malas). All the Physiological and Pathological
processes involve these constituents and are responsible for health and ill
health in a person
Ayurveda means "the
science of Life", is time tested, natural system of diagnosis and
treatment practiced for
more than 5,000 years
old.It provides an integrated approach to the prevention and treatment of
illness.
This is often called the
"Mother of All Healing" and many
scholars consider it as the ancient science of healing.
It emphasizes to
practice nature friendly living practices outlining certain Behavioral, Dietary
and Treatment patterns.
Ayurveda is holistic in its approach in solving the problems of mankind
According to
Ayurveda, the human body is composed of Panchamahabhootas(5 primordial elements)
and Tridoshas
1.
Prithvi ( Earth ) 2.
Jala (Water) 3.
Agni (Fire) 4.
Akasha (Space) 5.
Vayu (Air)
Hence the air we
respire, the space we more about food we eat, water we drink all are composed of
same five chief components
1.Vatha,
2.Pitha, 3.Kapha.
The healthy condition of human body exists in the equilibrium of the three
doshas.
Ayurveda covers both knowledgeof life
and healthy living. Its twin concern – with normal and abnormal or pathological
enables a human to maintain health and cure from disease.
Ayurveda not merely treat the disease, but treat the patient as a
whole.
Ayurveda does not belong to any particular civilization religion or
country; it aims at the well being of everybody.
Ayurveda has no
beginning and no end.
Ayurveda
does not belong to any particular period of history
