The main objective of vocational education and
training is to prepare people, especially the youth in the age group of 15-25
years, for the world of work. Vocational training programs make them employable
for a broad range of occupations in various industries and other economic
sectors. It primarily trains them in very specific activities, and provides a
significant “hands on” experience in acquiring the necessary skills, says Ms.
Sonia Nagpal, MD, i360 Staffing & Training Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
It’s necessary to bridge the gap between employment opportunities and the skill
and knowledge base of the unemployed youth through capacity building and
training inputs, and helping them to get into entry level employment
opportunities, adds Sonia.
The key approach of the government has been to offer accreditation to a variety
of existing training institutions, which could be brought under the
responsibility available through a certificate awarding system comparable to the
formal system of education.
It has been estimated by the industry that if Indian skilled workforce continues
to rise for another 25 years then India could be one of the most vibrant
workforces in the world by 2035. But to make this dream into a reality, it is
necessary for the Government, Industry, & Educational Institutions to work
together. Further to improve the productivity of industry, trade and services as
well as to make India more competitive, the subject of vocational training would
have to be taken up with all the State Authorities, the Ministry of HRD &
Education, and all the Chambers of Commerce in India as well as with the
all-India associations such as CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM.
Experts
view “Demographic Dividend” to be a strategic advantage for India and estimate
that the size of India’s workforce population would swell from 77.5 crore in
2008 to 95 crore in 2026. For that, it has become essential to impart vocational
training at both rural & urban level as it will prepare the youth for a
vocational job of their choice. It will also build up an excellent workforce of
international quality, which would have demand not only in India but in all
countries. It will also reduce cost and improve productivity of services by
providing skilled manpower which will run the country with a higher efficiency,
lesser wastage and lower cost of operation.
According to Sonia, “The time has come that the nation should accept this fact
that along with primary-secondary education, we need vocational training also as
everyone cannot become an engineer, doctor, accountant or a lawyer. Vocational
training plays an essential role in an individual’s growth which in turn results
in the growth of a nation & its economy’”. Granting education & knowledge to
students so that they can stand on their own is always considered as a noble
cause. i360 Staffing & Training Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a 3 year old venture is
following the same philosophy by nurturing the talent amongst the students
through vocational knowledge. Being associated with i360 is also a better
investment from the business point of view as i360 provides Internationally
