Corian is widely accepted as a material for
countertops, vanity tops, tub/shower walls, kitchen sinks, vanity basins,
laboratory bench tops in numerous markets like: lodging, healthcare, banks,
boutiques, restaurant and many others
Corian is used as a decorative material in a variety of residential and
commercial applications. It offers design versatility, functionality and
durability. Supplied in sheets and shapes, it can be fabricated with
conventional woodworking tools into virtually any design.
Invented and produced by DuPont, Corian is
a solid surface offering extraordinary possibilities of arranging and serving
its users for many years. This material is used in both the private and
commercial and public, including in hotels, shopping malls, airports, ships or
in health.
Balancing the beauty and durability of Corian is ideal for the creation of
innovative and imaginative architecture and applications designed to serve for
many years.
Whatever you can imagine, you can probably create it with Corian . Available in
over 72 colors, Corian can be cut and cut, carved and machined like wood,
ground, heat formed and combined with other materials ... design and creation of
opportunities are virtually limitless.
DuPont Corian was invented in 1967 by
DuPont, the first manufacturer of solid surface materials in the world. It is a
durable, non-porous, homogeneous surface material, consisting of approximately
one third acrylic resin (also known as PolyMethyl methacrylate or PMMA), and
about 2/3 natural minerals. The most important of these minerals is aluminum
trihydrate (ATH) derived from bauxite, an ore from which aluminum is extracted.
For more information on the physico-chemical properties of DuPont ™ Corian can
be found in the Technical Specification, which is available in the "Brochures".
DuPont Corian is used for the manufacture of interior design and in design.
Its unusual properties, in particular the ability to perform invisible joints ,
cause that can be made in virtually any artistic vision.
Corian can be considered a “green” material because it is…
-Durable and renewable: it lasts long time and can easily be repaired and
renewed.
-Because it is reworkable,
-Corian generates up to 1/3 less waste than stone in fabrication process
-Chemically inert and environmentally responsible: it doesn’t react readily with
other chemicals or elements, therefore has low impact on environment.
-Corian also meets the most restrictive “food zone” standards. The pigments used
to colour the material are all approved for food contact.
- Non toxic: at room temperature
- Corian is non toxic, with virtually no “off-gassing” of volatile organic
compounds. In a fire situation, Corian® is clean-burning and produces an
insignificant amount of smoke.
-Also, Corian
adhesives and sealants have extremely low VOC emissions during the curing
process, well below US and EU standards.
Inspect sheets and shapes products prior to fabrication.
An essential element to sheet inspection is checking for colour matching.
The composition of Corian produces slight colour variations between production
cycles due to the complex blending of natural minerals and man-made acrylics.
Prior to cutting, check carefully your drawing and prepare a cutting list. It is
essential that you allow minimum 3 mm total tolerance to allow Corian to expand
and contract.
WALL CLADDING
The Corian sheet is ideal for many vertical applications.
It is easy to apply and can be installed over most sound substrates:
Water-resistant gypsum board
Moisture-resistant plywood
M.D.F. board
Any sound tile surface
Plasterboard sheeting
DO’S
-Always allow Corian to move freely.
-Always allow a minimum 3 mm total tolerance to allow Corian to expand and
contract.
-Always radius corners as acrylics are vulnerable to stress at inside corners.
-Always sand smooth any nicks or cuts from edges.
-Always use flexible adhesive when applying substrate to Corian
.
DON’Ts
-Don’t screw directly into the Corian
-Don’t use jig saws to cut Corian
-Don’t use substitute adhesive to seam Corian together.
-Don’t put Corian seams through heating appliance locations.
- Don’t use full underlayment in any application where heating
