We may describe to someone the taste of a sweet, saying it was wonderful eating it. But can that person feel the taste just by hearing us?. To know its taste, he will have to eat it. Likewise, God too cannot be described and understood from just descriptions, said K. Sambandan.

God has to be experienced. But how do we experience this joy? First we must purify our hearts . When we sit on a chair, do we not dust it?

If God is to reside in our hearts, we should clean them of undesirable thoughts? A pure heart is one where the Lord willingly resides.

Even to purify our minds, we must seek God's help; we cannot do it on our own.

Lord Siva burnt three cities belonging to demons. But the fact is the Lord really burnt the three things that keep us in bondage: ego, the effects of our actions and illusion.

Those in whose hearts God resides will not discriminate between people. They see only the atma and not the physical form that the atma takes in this birth.

For the pure hearts, disaster and victory, a joyous occasion and a sorrowful one are all the same. They remain unmoved by the quick changes in fortune that they are subjected to in life.

Rama's composure

Lord Rama maintains His composure when He is told He is to be crowned and also when He is banished to the forest.

When Sita is in Lanka, She thinks of Rama's face when He was informed of each of these. His face was like a lotus in a painting.

Real lotuses are radiant one day and wilt the next day. But a lotus in a painting remains the same even after years.

To indicate this, Rama's face is compared to a lotus in a painting. It shows that His face registered no emotion when He was offered the throne and when He was deprived of it.

That is the state of mind of a person who has a pure heart. Worldly matters do not affect him, and his thoughts are on a higher plane.
