Construction/Project managers have limitless
employment opportunities both in public and private sector infrastructure
development companies. Public sector air port, highways and port development
institutions and government departments like railways and defence are among the
top employer of construction/project managers. Project managers also find
favorable employment options in power, energy, telecommunication and IT related
companies. They also can work with real estate developers. Small companies may
hire project/construction managers for proper management of their projects.
Experienced project managers also can work independently as consultants. They
also can work with consultancy firms dealing with building and construction
matter.
Institutes Offering
Unlike other management programme there are only few institutes in the country
that offer courses in construction/project management. Some premier institutes
are National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), Pune;
The Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, Ahmedabad; Indian
Institute of Technology, Madras; University of Roorkee, Roorkee and Anna
University, Chennai. Besides Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi
also offers distance learning courses in construction/project management.

National Institute of
Construction Management and Research (NICMAR) is a leading educational Institute
established by the Indian construction industry. It is recognised by Government
of India as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation - SIRO. Major
academic programmes of the Institute were started with technical assistance from
UNDP and academic inputs from the faculty of Loughbourgh and Indian Institute of
Management, Ahmedabad.

ELIGIBILITY
|
Candidates with a
Degree in Engineering or Architecture (with minimum 50% marks) from a
recognized institution are eligible. Final year students can also apply.

ADMISSION TESTS |
The admission Test
comprises: Written Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
|
i. Written test is
of two hours duration. Written test consists objective type questions in
the area of Data Interpretation, Quantitative & Analytical
ability, English Language and General Knowledge. Candidates having valid
CAT/MAT/GMAT/GATE/ XAT/ATMA/JMET scores are exempted from NICMAR written
test.
ii. Group Discussion(GD)
iii. Personal Interview(PI)
- Candidates may be divided into the groups, each group comprising not
more than 12 candidates. Grouping must be done randomly by serial order
of registration numbers.
- Each group may have 2 faculty members as facilitators.
- Facilitators have a passive role. Facilitators and candidates
introduce themselves, facilitators explain the rules of the game,
distribute case situation & get them started. They ensure that everyone
participates and no single person dominates
- Time for GD is 40 minutes.
