, Yahoo! Contributor Network: Accidents at home are mostly caused by either slipping or falling. The most common perhaps is slipping in the bathroom. Such accidents can be very dangerous at time, leading to a severe injury or breaking an arm or leg.

Here are some preventive measures you can take to avoid any such risk, especially if you have small children or elderly people in your house.

  • Use non-slip mats in your baths or shower trays.
  • Use non-slippery flooring for your bathrooms and kitchen. Polished marble or tiled surfaces are inclined to get wet and cause accidents.
  • Add the wall mounted hand rail for elderly people near bathtubs and toilet seats.
  • Mop and dry floors immediately if they get wet.
  • Clean your bathrooms and toilet floors frequently to avoid mold, mildew and soap scum to settle on the floors and make floors and other surfaces slippery.
  • Dry yourself with a towel before you leave your bathtub or shower room and place mats outside to dry your feet upon.
  • Use extra non-slip liners underneath your mats placed outside your bathtubs or shower rooms.
All you need is to take some precautionary measures. After all, prevention is better than cure.
