Top places to study
photography, design and sciences
Britain is a very popular place to study. Not only does it offer
diverse universities that are a mix of traditional and contemporary places of
study, but diverse cities in which they're set too. If you're looking into
studying an art or science degree, then take a look at these top British
universities to study your chosen topic. Whether it's art and design or
photography, physics or biology, Britain has the right uni or college for you.
Goldsmiths,
University of London
In the world's top 100 and the UK's top 20 universities for the arts and
humanities, Goldsmiths University of London, formerly Goldsmiths College, is the
place to study if you're artistically gifted. Famous artists including Antony
Gormley and Damien Hirst are among the university's former students, with six
past students winning the prestigious Turner Prize. This all provides more
artistic inspiration than you can shake a paint brush at! In a great location
not far from London's centre, Goldsmiths is the perfect university option for
any budding artist.
University College London
Established in 1826, University College London was established to make education
widely available to students of any race, class, religion or gender. This uni is
based in the heart of London, which makes for a buzzing and exciting atmosphere.
The university offers a new combined Bachelor of Arts and Sciences course, which
allows students to build a customised study programme — perfect for any student
torn between topics in this field. Combining historic buildings with modern
technologies, the History of Art Department is recognised as one of the most
distinguished departments in its subject in the world.
University
of Manchester: Physics and Astronomy
If it's physics and astronomy you're keen on studying, then look no further than
the University of Manchester. The Physicist Brian Cox, OBE, received his degree
and PHD at this celebrated university and he's now an honorary professor who
presents guest lectures to all levels of students and hosts talks about his
experiences of making his television shows about astronomy. He's not the only
famous staff member — two University of Manchester physics professors won the
Nobel Prize for Physics in 2010 by inventing a completely new material called
graphene. To really impress its prospective students, Manchester is the only
physics department in the UK to be both in the top five of internationally
outstanding research universities and to have the top ranking for teaching.
