Increasing Your Intake of H20 May Reduce Risk of CHD:
Cheryl E Preston, Yahoo!
Contributor Network:
We have all heard the benefit of drinking 8 glasses of water a day. And seen the
old television shows and movies where someone was crawling through the desert
crying out for water. The bible tells us that as He was dying on the cross,
Jesus said "I thrist."
According to research done at Kale University, drinkingplenty of ater is not the
only issue. The study indicates that the timing of when we drink makes all the
difference. By re-hydrating with H20 at specific intervals throughout the day
and night, you will receive more benefits. Here are the recommendations:
Drinking 2 glasses of water after waking up will help activate internal organs (adding
some lemon juice is beneficial ).
Drinking 1 glass of water before a meal improves digestion. Drinkin 1 glass of
water after taking a bath lowers blood pressure. Drinking 1 glass of water
before bedtime will help prevent heart attack, stroke and leg cramps.
A study ,(published
in 2002 )
in the American
Journal of Medical Epidemiology indicates
that participants who drink five or more glasses of plain water a day had a much
lower risk of fatal coronary heart disease, (CHD) when compared to those who
drink less than two glasses of water per day.
Elevated hydration seems to keep heart attacks a bay.
The study indicated that drinking 5 glasses a day of other beverages offered no
protection for the heart. And that dehydration can make one more susceptible to
coronary heart disease.
it is important not to overdo it, because drinking
too much water can be hazardous to your health.
Years ago I drank about a gallon of water within an hour. I was also taking a
supplement to lose weight. I became dizzy, and weak. My fingers were cold and
numb. At the emergency room they told me my salt levels were low.
I recalled hearing of people who drank so much water that they flushed all the
electrolytes from their bodies, and died. I realized the seriousness of what I
had done. Therefore I drink no less than 5 glasses of water daily and definitely
no more than the recommended 8.
I keep lots of bottled water on hand for my family. I also keep bottled water in
the trunk of mycar. My husband, children and even my 5 year old grandson are now
in the habit of grabbing a bottled water. Who knew something so simple as
increasing H20 played a part in reducing heart attack risk.
